In Term 2, 2025 Karratha Primary School officially achieved ALL 7 Quality Areas in the National Quality Standard verification. Our school has been recognised as meeting every single element across all Early Childhood domains from K to Year 2.

The Verifiers commended our:

  • Learning through play and purpose – our ‘Discovery Time’ is a huge success with our students!
  • Strong, respectful relationships between staff, children, and families
  • Engaging indoor and outdoor spaces that spark curiosity and creativity
  • Educators who ask the right questions to stretch growing minds
  • A culture of continuous improvement and professional growth
  • A deep commitment to cultural responsiveness and truth telling
  • Strong partnerships with families and community that truly matter

We take pride in our Early Childhood Education program and our staff, students, and families - it takes a village to raise a child, and ours is thriving.

2025 NQS Overview

'Discovery Time' - The Walker Learning Approach

Our Kindergarten to Year 1 students engage in purposeful play-based learning. 'Discovery Time' (based on the Walker Learning Approach), allows the students to be involved in meaningful, student-centred and curriculum-based learning that is relevant and developmentally appropriate within an intrinsically motivating learning environment.

Our teachers determine overall learning intentions for Discovery Time for each term which are adjusted accordingly to the needs of each individual class of students. This includes social-emotional and behavioural learning intentions as these decided upon by each teacher and heavily dependent on what is developmentally appropriate at the time in addition to the needs of students in the class.
